Album
But that's the home of the Festival in the Desert, which celebrated its third anniversary in 2003. While it attracts international talent, the real focus is on artists who make their homes in the area, often of the nomadic Tuareg people. But there are others who live locally, like the legendary guitarist Ali Farka Toure, whose village of Niafunke lies just 40 kilometers away, and whose Karaw here is a masterpiece of desert funk. Festival In The Desert. 20 tracks 73:12. Various Artists. Released: Oct 2003. Label: World Village. Festival In The Desert ranks among the great live albums of all time. African musicians from all over the continent gathered in the heart of Touareg territory - Essakane, Mali, a three-day camel ride from Timbuktu - to play desert music to desert dwellers, but the festival became so much more: impromptu jam sessions filled goat skin tents during the day in between camel races and live music rang out all night. Robert Plant showed up and sang, but he's eclipsed by the stunning sou. The Festival au désert Festival in the Desert was an annual concert in Mali, showcasing traditional Tuareg music as well as music from around the world. The first Festival took place in 2001 in Tin Essako, then in Tessalit in 2002, and in Essakane from 2003 to 2009. From 2010 to 2012 it was held on the outskirts of Timbuktu because of security concerns which have prevented it from taking place since. Festival in the Desert. Live, Import. Various Artist Format: Audio CD. Throwing an enormous Woodstock-style music festival in the middle of the Sahara desert-the gorgeous photos included in the booklet to Festival in the Desert make clear-isn't exactly easy. Held during the last three years in the shifting sands of northern Mali, the Festival in the Desert has brought together a mix of desert nomads and pop stars to play sublimely enchanting music in some of the harshest but most starkly beautiful conditions imaginable. However, this year's Festival in the Desert brought a fertile collection of musicians to Essakane, an oasis 65 kilometers northwest of Timbuktu in Mali. The remoteness of the location was just as much a test as the technical conditions, but more than a handful of artists made it all the way: from veterans like Mali's ambassador of the blues, Ali Farka Touré, to younger players like Adama Yalomba. While most of the 36 musicians hailed from Mali, other segments of the international delegation found their home in Africa, Europe and the United States. This collection serves as a sprightl. Critic Score. Mali's influential Festival in the Desert brings its caravan to The Met for a rare performance of desert blues. Pre-show talk with musicians at 2:15 pm. 6 March 2015 . Recorded from the board live in Timbuktu the album is in the final masteringproduction stage and needs a final cash push to finish. ROBERT PLANTVARIOUS The Festival In The Desert 2003 UK 20-track CD featuring music recorded live at the Festival In The Desert in Essakane, Mali, just 65kms from Timbuktu Featuring an exclusive Sahara desert
