We're Only in It for the Money is the third studio album by American rock band the Mothers of Invention, released on March 4, 1968 by Verve Records. As with the band's first two efforts, it is a concept album, and satirizes left and right-wing politics, particularly the hippie subculture, as well as the Beatles' album Sgt. Like Freak Out, We're Only in It for the Money essentially devotes its first half to satire, and its second half to presenting alternatives. Despite some specific references, the first-half suite is still wickedly funny, since its targets remain immediately recognizable. The second half shows where his sympathies lie, with character sketches of Zappa's real-life freak acquaintances, a carefree utopia in Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance, and the strident, unironic protest Mother People. Regardless of how dark the subject matter, there's a pervasively s. 19 tracks 37:54. Zappa intended to release this album with the 'Sgt. Pepper album' pastiche as the cover. This was vetoed and it became the inner spread, with the original inner concept becoming the cover again a parody of said album, with band members on a yellow background, but a subtlety lost on the censors. Throughout, their output was primarily directed by composer and guitarist, Frank Zappa 19401993. Their albums combined a broad span of genres and utilised dive read more. Were Only in It for the Money still managed to reach No. 30 Zappas best showing until Apostrophe became his only Top 10 album in 1974 and build a small reputation as a counterculture classic. Several of its songs including Are You Hung Up, Who Needs the Peace Corps, Absolutely Free, Lets Make the Water Turn Black and Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance rank among Zappas best. The album, a companion piece to the era more than one to. They were called the Mothers of Invention, led by one of the world's best composer of the past decades: Frank Zappa.
