Really neat that this version has no writing on the front cover.
Farewell the Thin White Duke. We are barely worthy of your genius.
I wish you well.
A classic in every way. Starts with one of the most recognizable pop songs of all time and ends strong with The Bewlay Brothers. Smooth like easy sledding.
I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with Jadedtom, here: there's nothing stupid or inept whatsoever about this one. Every song holds up, even the minor ones are brilliant. It's certainly a contender not only for Bowie's best album, but one of the greatest albums of all time. Amazing.
This is par for Bowie's course...flashes of genius amidst incredibly stupid lyrics and minor songs. The good news first: 'Changes' is a pop classic, despite some awkward poetry. 'Life on Mars' may be Bowie's best song. The production is first rate, and the idea is quite compelling, although once again the lyrics are inept. 'Queen Bitch' is a nice little rocker. The bad news: the rest of the album. 'Oh You Pretty Things' has a catchy chorus and that's it. 'Song For Bob Dylan' is gratuitous name-dropping. I listened to this again a few weeks ago and all of the above stated is correct! This album is embarrassing in lots of ways.
Mine skips on the first track during each chorus. It goes 'ch-ch-changes' each time. The rest of it is really good though, 'for a digital remaster'.
Hahaha that was pretty good. Well done, David Bowie I imagine is smiling somewhere ;Q)
I'm pretty sure he knows that and he's just having a little fun with it.
I'm pretty sure thats how its supposed to go on the song
My copy of this pressing sounds very good. A clean and a couple of plays have almost completely removed the surface noise.
I feel lucky after having seen your comments. My version is excellent with no cracks, jumps or anything strange. I would agree that for a digital remaster the sound is really good.
My version has cracks all the way. I'll use the clean machine to see if its better
Needed a few cleanings, then seemed to play fine. Not the greatest version of the LP, but I did not have a vinyl version, and I like the color vinyl releases. The gold color is nice. Hopefully the Bowie team will issue more stand alone titles (in colors).
Mine has a locked groove at the end of Pretty Things. Other than that the SQ is OK, but nothing special. Not a particularly dynamic sounding record unfortunately.
I agree regarding the sound. I have an early pressing and bought this to have a nice clean copy but as soon as the piano comes in on Changes I was so disappointed as it seems really muted and when I then got out the original it was so clear. I wanted to buy a few other remasters but don't to waste my money. Have you got any others and originals to compere them with?
will not be available from online only retailers". ---> that's a lie.. Dodax sells it......
How is the sound quality on that release ?
Same with my copy, but after I washed it, it sounds great.
Phallozs Dwarfs
Mine too, it's pretty bad but only on Side A.
How's the color? Photos don't seem to do the gold any justice..?
Mine clicks and pops the whole way through ! I will surely send it back !
Pretty decent. I couldn't tell any difference between this and the black vinyl edition.
Not that limited, my local HMV had 20 copies and it's a small store, also available in Sainsburys for £14, so don't pay rip off prices !
