Somewhat bizarrely, Beat received a large amount of critical buzz over its supposedly groundbreaking fusion of hip-hoptechno rhythms and the band's older dream pop stylings. Anyone who had heard Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine or a fair amount of Chapterhouse's material probably had some things to say about that judgment, while in turn many dance mavens saw the band's efforts as already terribly outdated in terms of general sonic approach. And as quietly as it began, Bowery Electric's sophomore effort ends, proving its worth as the duo's magnum opus. Heavily overshadowed and criminally underrated, Beat warrants a listen from even the most skeptical of music fans - at worst, the album's a cluster of noise, but at best, it's a magnificent cluster of noise. do not pay inflated prices, arrival of repress is imminent
Cheers. Just ordered from Norman Records in the UK,so hopefully I'll be giving it a spin soon.
I see that you just got these in stock. Thank you so much for repressing!
Can anyone tell me what types of inner sleeves they got? I found a used copy and it has 1 plain white sleeve and one clear mfsb sleeve, which doesn't seem right.
the kranky reissue has got white paper sleeves, round corners
I mailed the label asking for a repress and Mr. Kranky answered this a few days ago: "we will be repressing this, do not pay the prices on discogs or ebay".
Dead Samurai
Yep, I asked too - I just got... "we will definitely do it some day".Oh well.. time to play the waiting game.
I don't think so. They wrote me back that they have 'no news for me at this time'. Let's hope or start a petition!
Did this already happen, and it's already sold out? Have I missed out!!?
Funny, I asked for the same and got no confirmation by them. :'(
One of the finest trip hop albums ever. Beautiful pressing, the sound quality here is no joke. Very deep/dark zone-out music, just superb all around. I used to think Lushlife was the only release worth getting from these guys but bought this on a whim and ... mind = blownThis is the one to get.
My copy has a few minor warps, seemingly typical with US pressings of late, but fortunately doesn't effect listening quality, as it sounds tremendous... dead quiet, deep, rich, dynamic full sound not possible in any other format... no credits or info on source material or method of transfer, but whatever they (Kranky) did, it was (sounds) first rate.
Kranky does not go all out for LP reissues. No inserts, no bio of the band or making of the album. That's too bad because we're forking out $30 for the album. Is the album remastered at least and on 180 gram? Thanks.
"it sounds tremendous" yes !!! . Sound qualitiy of the pressing : 10/10. by the way, no warps on my copy.
Curious to know how the repress is, have an OG press.
In theory, the Kranky reissue should have better sound quality, given that the music is spread more evenly over both records. The Beggars Banquet version has a maximum over 24 minutes on one side, while the Kranky version only has a maximum of over 19 minutes on one side.I'm guessing, that in order to make it more convenient, Beggars Banquet put what they thought would be the most popular tracks on the first record, but at a sacrifice to sound quality. The Kranky reissue is also closer to the original running order since Beggars Banquet moved the second track to side B on their version.
