My copy is pretty quiet. The run out on side two was a little noisy but within acceptable limits. I was surprised to find GZ did this, I usually end up with noisy records pressed there. No warping. Flat as a pancake. Came with a poly lined sleeve and the insert. Sounds great! I definitely will be picking up more in the series.
I got a black vinyl copy of this with matching runouts, Calyx '18, etc. PURE11LP (no X), same barcode.
An excellent pressing. Bring on the next batch of releases please!
Terrific sound quality compare to the 2008 release which was a shame release. The Layout and design is also well made. If you like Stereolab, than you should go for this nice release.
Not sure if it's my setup (ATLP120, Nagaoka MP-110), but I've been having some strange sibilance, especially on the track "Peng ! 33". Other than that, great pressing.
That would make sense as I noticed it on "Pack" as well.
It's also present on the new reissue of Transient Random Noise Bursts..., especially on Pack Yr Romantic Mind, and that one's by Duophonic/Warp. Both were cut at Calyx. I'm willing to try on a different turntable, ATLP120 is known for its barely functional antiskating adjustment.
I have the same setup as you and noticed the same. I swapped out the nagaoka for my shure m447 and it's even more pronounced. So I'm positive it's a mastering issue. I think the too pure reissues (I have bachelor pad, too) went a bit overboard on the treble to try to bring out the soft, mellow vocals. Still nice to have nonetheless.
I'd like to know more about this version too. Why wasn't it part of the recent duophonic official releases?
rights were owned by Beggers Group not duophonic. Band was signed to Too Pure for these releases.
How does this compare to the 2008 pressing? Is it the same or is it the new band-official reissue?
Trust me, it's an EXCELLENT remaster! Buy it and you will not regret it (this, UK version, though, NOT the same US pressing, I think there may have been a plating issue, or something...)!
Brick my own
Very, VERY favourably, this one sounds brilliant--but go for THIS, the UK version, I've heard it's superior to the same US reissue (a plating issue? Not sure...). Pretty sure it's band-official as Tim Gane provides a short track-by-track "breakdown" of each song, the same way he has done with the recent Duophonic/UHF remastered re-issues. Particularly great remastering; I have a CD reissue to compare it to which, iirc, is the American Recordings early nineties issue? May have to do a side-by-side comparison...for what it's worth. A friend has the 2008 Too Pure pressing and it's just dogshit...this version here sounds almost like a different record--the amount of pops, surface noise etc on the 2008 TP vinyl is fucking shameful and ruins a great record. Buy this one, you will not regret it!
the new reissue sounds splendid! zero surface noise, clicks or pops. just lovely early stereolab sounds :)
It was recently remastered at Calyx who did the recent Duophonic reissues, Official release as per Martin band manager. Probably sounds different than 2008 - not sure if 2008 sounded poorly.
The copy I bough 5 years back was terrible. I hope this is better!
