Nearer to Thee The phantom zone, the parallax, the upside down-there is a rich cultural history of exploring in-between places. Through her latest, Titanic Rising, Weyes Blood . Natalie Mering has, too, designed her own universe to soulfully navigate lifes mysteries. Maneuvering through a space-time continuum, she intriguingly plays the role of melodic, sometimes melancholi. Weyes Blood's album 'Titanic Rising' also tackles climate change and the devastating toll it's taken on the earth. Kathryn Vetter Miller. When Natalie Mering was 12 years old, she stopped watching movies. The singer-songwriter, who performs under the name Weyes Blood pronounced wise blood , didnt watch a single film for three years. I was like, This is full of shit,' the 31-year-old admits. This is just setting everybody up for disappointment. Theres no real value. Its just something to be consumed, created by sexist pigs. Titanic Rising is the fourth studio album by American musician Weyes Blood, released on April 5, 2019 by Sub Pop. On January 17, 2019, Weyes Blood released the album's first single, Andromeda. A second single, Everyday, was released along with an accompanying self-directed music video on February 12, 2019. The album received universal acclaim from critics, garnering an aggregate score of 91100 on Metacritic. Sub Pop. In the face of catastrophe, Natalie Mering always finds serenity. Throughout her fourth record as Weyes Blood, tides are surging, trees are falling, the internet is ruining romance, capitalism is pushing workers to the brink of exhaustion, and reality is breaking her heart. In the wake of all this, Mering continues to search the stars for salvation. Belief-in oneself, in another, in myths-is Titanic Risings only request. I want to make sure everybody feels like they deserve to be alive, she told Pitchfork. I hope you could have a smile during the apocalypse. Titanic Rising is the fourth studio album by American musician Weyes Blood. It was released on April 5, 2019 by Sub Pop Records. A strong contender for album of the year. Titanic Rising is remarkable for its breadth, effortlessly shifting from the 90-second ambient wash of the title track to Picture Me Betters homespun take on the cosmic cowboyisms of Kacey Musgraves. Then there are Merings lyrics, evincing a similar shift in scale and scope

For Information: The bonus disc detailed in the listing was of finite stock. Therefore not all copies of the exclusive necessarily have it included with a purchase. It was never physically bundled with the lpHope this helpsRegardsRT

I must have been lucky because my copy plays wonderful except for scant and random pops. Even A5 & B1play OK without non-fill issues.

Reiterating the other comments on the quality of the pressing. Titanic Rising (A5) has a very poor reproduction of high end frequencies, Movies (B1) has a horrible ripping noise scratch sound which repeats throughout the middle section. The rest of side B is riddled with crackles and pops. Overall very disappointing quality release given the greatness of the album. A real shame.
Darkraven
I had very similar issues with A5 and B1; additionally it sounded as if there was a big scratch on A5. Rough Trade generously offered to exchange the record. The second copy was marginally better, no non-fill zipper noises on B1, but the sound is still crackly, muffled, and basically awful. A travesty for this beautiful record to be so poorly pressed.
Burisi
My copy of this is littered with crackles and pops throughout both sides. Particularly bad on the first song on each side.

okay so my copy doesn't sound good, the A side is crackly but mostly fine, the B side though has a horrible kind of ripping paper sound through movies and maybe 2 minutes into mirror forever? 9/10 for the album but 3/10 for my pressing. The gold vinyl is nice to look at but i'll be listening to the download version.

Thanks for the reply, I've heard of non-fill but never really knew what it was! I probably should have but the new copy might've sounded the same and I don't like taking more copies when it's limited. Listened to the record a couple of times since and it's not THAT bad, the first side sounds good It's just a shame there isn't more quality control.
Silly Dog
The ripping sound is non-fill. I would request a new copy from Riugh Trade.

Ordered mine off Rough Trade UK yesterday for under 24 quid (with the p&p). Can't wait to receive it
Bad Sunny
just ordered this from the rough trade site for £20 don't buy it from the rip-off people! Great album i just hope it sounds better than my vinyl copy of front row seat to earth which is very noisy

My reply was for the standrad black EU version. Not Gold.

At least it has the same overall "sound profile" as FRSTW - lacking a bit treble, not too much dynamic range... a bit harsh to the ears at times - the usual "blanket over the music" which is popular nowadays - not too "hi-fi". Still... pressed at Optimal and better vinyl and overall slightly better sounding than FRSTW. So much for the recording - the music is just stunning, like always, from Mering - and that's the most important. Enjoy!

Just a friendly reminder that you have no soul if you're here contemplating the flipping value of this release. You can do better things with your time.

https://www.roughtrade.com/us/music/weyes-blood-titanic-rising"All versions come with a bonus CD of 4 extra BRAND NEW tracks recorded especially for Rough Trade"What a poor choice of words. These are just live sessions of songs already on the album..
Samowar
Yes, slightly confusing wording, but these bonus tracks are good versions, more minimal (perhaps even better?) arrangements than the originals, well recorded and definitely worth getting for fans. (I bought my CD version of the album from Rough Trade, just so I'd receive this bonus disc - I'm very glad I did.) The back cover says they are from a studio session recorded at Heavy Duty Studio A in Burbank, probably not live, as there are overdubs* of Natalie's sublime vocals on "Everyday" & "Wild Time". The tiny organ+whistling miniature "A Lot Has Changed" makes a fine intro to "A Lot's Gonna Change". Some days I may even prefer these shorter+mellower renditions to the more epic originals. For instance, surprisingly there are no drums anywhere on the bonus CD (apart from three solitary bass drum hits in "Everyday"), nor strings or even synths, just bass, guitars, organs, piano & sublime whistling (by Molly Lewis) accompanying the angel vox, which now have more space in the mix.* I've been A/B'ing the versions:- After the first verse, the shorter "Wild Time" loses the middle section and second chorus with a reverse reverb edit at 2'00" jumping to what would be 3'31" in the longer original; apart from that both versions seem to have identical vox+instrument tracks, just less of them, so I'd call it a remix. A good DJ can play them both in sync (until the missing section) for fun phasing effects :-)- "Everyday" seems to be a completely different recording though, as it soon slides out of sync against the original, and ends sooner without the crazy coda.- "Something To Believe" also slides out of sync with the original, and seems like different takes (although some are so close - I am open to being corrected!) After repeated listens, I prefer this less symphonic arrangement; with the organ to the fore it sounds like vintage Pink Floyd![Since the bonus CD comes with all versions bought from Rough Trade, should there be separate Versions of this release for CD+CD and Loser Edition LP+CD, as well as the Gold Vinyl LP+CD this page refers to?]
