Notes

Inspiration for this album is based on "The Freeloaders", an article about the dangers of sampling and copyright violation written by Megan McArdle for "The Atlantic" and illustrated by Jeremy Traum. The illustration for this article made use of a few lines of printed music from Ernest Bloch's "Suite Hébraïque" and it forms the basis (either sampled or inspiring) for all of the tracks of this album.

Track 1 - End of the track is a loop of a public domain clip of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Adieu Au Piano" altered with a granular processor. Composition created in Audiomulch.
Track 3 - Composition created using Milky Tracker (OS X) and samples of NES instruments
Track 4 - Looped effects come from artist's 2005 public performance in Iowa City recorded off Bose L1/B1 with binaural microphones into a Sony Minidisc recorder. Additional 2009 field recording loops done with a Zoom H2 in stereo surround mode. Alterations and final mix done in Sony Acid Pro using Grado headphones.
Track 5 - Risset tones produced with the Audiomulch Risset tone generator. Output was re-recorded in Ableton Live using sequential granular devices from Native Instruments’ Reaktor and Tom Erbe's Soundhack decimate plug-in. Small/final edits were done in Bias Peak.
Track 6 - JPEG version of Traub's artwork converted into raw audio via Soundhack. Audio translated into control data via Max/MSP to drive Propellerhead’s Reason, to manipulate pitch transcribed from the image, and to filter sound via audio generated from image data. Additional audio arranged in Logic Pro and edited/processed in Amadeus Pro with Apple AUs and Akihiko Matsumoto's Merzbizer Pluggo. Track dedicated to Nomad Palace.
Track 7 - Notes transcribed by hand into MIDI from Traub's image. MIDI editor triggered commercial piano samples via a Steinway grand at moderate tempo.
Track 8 - Sounds sampled from field recordings, classical vinyl, John Lee Hooker, synths. Processing via lloopp, Soundhack, Reaktor and Live.
Track 9 - Inspired by the work of Harold Budd.
