Sprained Ankle is the debut album of American singer-songwriter Julien Baker. Originally self-released on Bandcamp as an EP, the album was re-released in October 2015 on 6131 Records. The songs on Sprained Ankle were written by Baker when she was a student at MTSU. She thought that they didn't fit the vibe of Forrister and didn't intend to release them as an album while writing. If I'm not listening to metal or synth pop chances are I'm listening to sad poetic young women play sad literate songs that I can't get out of my head and Baker does it close to the best. Julien Baker's extremely intimate songs operate in existential ultimatums-life or death, hope or despair, oblivion or epiphany. These are redemption songs that sound as raw as they feel.
