It was released in the United States by Atco Records and Capricorn Records on November 4, 1969 and produced by Adrian Barber. Formed in 1969, the Allman Brothers Band came together following various musical pursuits by each individual member. Following session work, Duane Allman moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he led large jam sessions with his new band, one he had envisioned as having two. Having two guitar players and two drummers, an extra effort was needed to get things ready and have everything recorded with a 16-track recorder. However, things were made difficult by the band themselves as they brought in two new members last-minute saxophonist Rudolph Juicy Carter and harmonica player Thom Doucette. The resulting double album, released in July 1971 by Capricorn Records, showcased the band's musicianship and natural talent for jamming.
