It is considered one of the finest examples of late Perpendicular Gothic English architecture. The Chapel was built in phases by a succession of kings of England from 1446 to 1515, a period which spanned the Wars of the Roses and three subsequent decades. The Chapel's large stained glass windows were not completed until 1531, and its early Renaissance rood screen was erected in 153236. The Chapel is an active house. Since its founding in 1971, the choir has gained an international reputation as one of the leading university choral groups in the world. The first chapel choir was formed in 1866. For the next one hundred years the choir consisted of undergraduate lower voices and a treble line provided by boys. Almost four years singing at Clare have come to an end, and although we will miss those long June afternoons sitting on the banks of the Cam, the Pimms, and May Week, I will look back on my time singing in this choir with great fondness and some incredible memories. Those memories begin in the summer before my first year at Cambridge, with a spectacular tour of Asia, ending in a blockbuster concert in Kuala Lumpur.
