Lead single Stand Above Me peaked at no. 21 on the UK Singles Chart, with follow-up Dream of Me charting at no. Today marks the release of OMD's ninth studio album 'Liberator'. successor to 1991's 'Sugar Tax' album, this continued in a similar dance-pop vein featuring the singles 'Stand Above Me', 'Dream Of Me' and 'Everyday'. In this article, we explore the genesis of 'Liberator' and how it veered away from its original 'gothic dancepop' direction. Like the bands previous album 'Liberator', its an album that has divided fan opinion over the years whilst its lack of commercial success has somewhat coloured McCluskeys own opinion of it. But this lyrically focused and well-produced collection has actually aged very well, and stands up against the best of the bands back catalogue
