G Force, Kenny G's second album, is a long way from the adventurous fusion Kenny G had recorded with Lorber, and the sax solos he was taking in 1983 were hardly breathtaking. But thanks to Kashif's participation, G Force is an enjoyable, R&B-oriented date and is probably the best album he did as a leader which isn't saying a lot, considering how boring most of his subsequent projects would be. Nice review 'Hi How Ya Doin;' in particular was very big on the London jazz funk pirates qand the underground dance clubs in the region (ie on the street) at the time and after listening to it for the first time in ages I think personally I prefer it more now than I did back then

Pretty enjoyable album with enough spillover from the Jeff Lorber days to make it far less gag-worthy than Kenny G's later "efforts." We've definitely left the 70s fusion sound behind; we're firmly in a synth-forward nighttime 80s groove. You'll get more Roland TR hand claps in this album than the previous one. The other thing that helps is that G tends to lay off the soprano, an instrument for whose unfortunate desecration he's single-handedly responsible. Ultimately there's more G than Lorber in this album, but it still works, though this would be their last collaboration.
