Album

Live at the Fillmore East is a posthumous live album by Jimi Hendrix released on February 23, 1999. The album documents Hendrix's performances with the Band of Gypsys at the Fillmore East on December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970. It is drawn from the same performances as, and can be seen as an extended complement to, the Band of Gypsys album, consisting mostly of songs not on the original album. Band of Gypsys is a live album by Jimi Hendrix and the first without his original group, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded on January 1, 1970, at the Fillmore East in New York City with Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums, frequently referred to as the Band of Gypsys. The album mixes funk and rhythm and blues elements with hard rock and jamming, an approach which later became the basis of funk rock. It contains previously unreleased songs and was the last full-length Hendrix album. Licensed From Michael Jeffery Estate. Recorded At Fillmore East. His Fillmore East shows with the Band of Gypsys, featuring bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles, captured Hendrix with his spirit of adventure still in overdrive but his feet planted once again on terra firma. Standing unusually still, his head bowed over his Fender Stratocaster in profound concentration, he had unleashed a rainbow barrage of firealarm feedback, knife-edge riffing, raw soulful melodicism and sunlight harmonies that arced over Cox and Miless roadhouse stomp with almost classical grace. But even at the Fillmore East with the Band of Gypsys he sometimes found old habits hard to break. Band of Gypsys 2 is a posthumous live album by American rock musician Jimi Hendrix, released in October 1986 by Capitol Records. This was the second time producer Alan Douglas supervised a Hendrix record for the label, the first being the live mini LP Johnny B. Goode, which was released earlier the same year. In a contemporary review for The Village Voice, music critic Robert Christgau gave Band of Gypsys 2 an A and said he preferred it over the original Band of Gypsys 1970 record because it. Despite the original Band of Gypsys album was a contractual obligation for Hendrix, I think that he was a very good judge of his own material to select the best live versions of the songs included in that album. So, in my opinion, the original Band of Gypsys album has the best material from those concerts. In conclusion: while the Band of Gypsys album has the best performances of this band from these concerts as Hendrix selected them very well then, this Live at the Fillmore East is a very good companion to that album, and it still is a very interesting album which gives me the impresion that the band rehearsed basic parts of the songs, and that. This album is the full song sets for the Band of Gypsys line up. Some of these songs did end up on the First rays of the New rising Sun album. The performance at the Fillmore East had a sound all on its own, it was raw, and original. The work Jimi, did with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox was more soulful than what Jimi had done with the Experience. This event had a big influence on the sound of Jimi's postmouthusly released albums, New Rising Sun and Valleys of Neptune
Mash
Very uneven, as are all of these Micheal Jeffrey Estate 'authorized' live boxes. The same shaky live audience recordings we've been hearing on bootlegs since the mid-70's. But essential if one is a completist.
