His second was for the couldn't-be-more-different score for A Place In the Sun 1952, with its jazzy saxophone and languorous strings, though in the dramatic climax it's full of Waxman's intensity. The Philadelphia Story has a Gershwin-like sophisticated sound as befits the picture's setting. Franz Waxman had an extraordinary career that stretched from the 1930s to the 1960s.
