Album

Norma Jean is the debut, and only, solo studio album by American R&B singer Norma Jean Wright, released on Bearsville Records in 1978. The album was produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of the band Chic, and was the project directly following the band's successful self-titled debut album Chic, which featured Wright on vocals. Norma Jean includes the singles Saturday, a US R&B Top 20 hit 15 in July 1978, Having A Party and Sorcerer, and was followed by non-album single High Society. Norma Jean formerly known as Luti-Kriss is an American metalcore band from Douglasville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Since their inception in 1997, numerous line up changes have left the band with no original members. To date, Norma Jean has released eight studio albums and received a Grammy Award nomination in 2006 for Best Recording Package for their second album O God, the Aftermath. The band's name is derived from the real name of actress Marilyn Monroe. Redeemer is Norma Jean's third studio album. It was released on September 12, 2006 in the United States, and on October 3, 2006 in Canada. The album sold more than 21,000 records in its first week. It is the last album to feature drummer Daniel Davison. For this album they filmed videos for Blueprints for Future Homes, and Songs Sound Much Sadder. Shannon Crawford, the singer of Cellophane and Monster in the Machine, painted the album artwork. Six Pack - Norma Jean - EP - Norma Jean. Very solid CHIC album in all but name. Standouts are "Saturday", "Sorcerer", "I like love" and the ballad "I believe in you".Both "Saturday" & "Sorcerer" were released as singles, but should have been much bigger hits.Be sure to check out Dimitri From Paris' 9 min + EPIC remix of "Saturday"--much better than the original LP mix.

Norma Jean Wright (born in Elyria, Ohio) was the lead vocalist of the soul, R&B and disco group Chic, from 1977 to 1978. She left Chic in 1978 to begin a solo career, billed as "Norma Jean" & this album was produced &, in the main, written by Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers as a goodbye & thankyou. This album has the classic Edwards / Rodgers stamp all over it; rock solid groovy b lines & funky as hell whacka whacka guitar riffage... layered on top of this foundation are some classy soaring string & brass orchestration & of course Norma's sweet soulful voice. To me the stand-out track on this album is 'I like love' which is 5.42 of pure goose-pimple inducing disco funk soul gloriousness... Opening with a simple Rodgers guitar riff, layering on an Edwards bassline & suddenly giving way to a full on orchestration & vocals which builds & builds until it suddenly drops away at 3.03 where we are treated to a jaw-droppingly glorious 2 minutes worth of midsection breakdown with Rodgers riffing his heart out building with incremental layers of Edwards bassline, strings & Norma Jean vocals until kicking back in at 4.04 with a full on crescendo & outro... This is utterly utterly smile-inducing & it's such a crying shame this tune wasn't pressed to 12" as it is crying out for a full phatt pressing.
