Here If You Listen is an album released on October 26, 2018 by BMG Music and features David Crosby and his quartet known as The Lighthouse Band which also includes Michael League, Becca Stevens, and Michelle Willis. The Lighthouse Band originated on Crosby's Lighthouse album. Producer Michael League along with Becca Stevens and Michelle Willis provided backing vocals on the Crosby-Stevens song By the Light of Common Day. On this album, the band is very different. Along with League, Crosby collaborated with Michelle Willis and Becca Stevens in a group that became informally known as the Lighthouse Band, as this collective was first debuted on the 2016 album Lighthouse. Here If You Listen is the third in this series, following 2017's Sky Trails by a year, and while it certainly the work of the same group, it feels distinctly different than its predecessors. Chalk that up to the Lighthouse Band interacting like a band here, collaborating on the writing and trading off lead vocals as they glide into lush, shimmering harmonies. Becca Stevens, Michael League and Michelle Willis backed Crosby on his tour in support of 2016s acclaimed Lighthouse album, and BrooklynVegan said of the quartets NYC show at Town Hall, they also clearly help him sound great. This latest, Here If You Listen, is simply wonderful. With fellow musician-composers and vocalists Becca Stevens, Michelle Willis, Michael League, and on one track playing piano, Bill Laurance, Crosby offers harmonic vocal arrangements akin to CSN&Y, with acoustic and electric guitars, Fender Rhodes, ARP Omni, and MIniMoog bass, and organs. Much of the album was recorded at Atlantic Sound studio in Brooklyn with members of Crosbys Lighthouse touring band, which includes Michael League of Snarky Puppy, Willis and Stevens. If leaving a group like Crosby, Stills & Nash was like jumping off a cliff, then finding the Lighthouse Band was like growing wings halfway down, Crosby said in a statement. According to a press release, Here If You Listen is a purposeful departure from LighthouseIt emerges as a highly collaborative effort, with all four artists trading off lead vocals and bringing their distinct songwriting to the mix. In 2016, Crosby spoke to Rolling Stone about his creative renaissance. On Here If You Listen, Crosby again joins forces with the three musicians who helped lend his 2016 album Lighthouse- and the tour in support of the album - its captivating grace: Michael League of Snarky Puppy, Michelle Willis and Becca Stevens Crosbys Lighthouse band. But in a purposeful departure from Lighthouse,Here If You Listen emerges as a highly collaborative effort, with all four artists trading off lead vocals and bringing their distinct songwriting to the mix.
