During Gleason's interview, Cannonball Adderley explains his music very clearly, which shouldn't be surprising since he was a music educator prior to becoming a full-time musician. Charles Lloyd takes a cue from John Coltrane's earlier appearance on the program and skips an interview with the host, focusing exclusively on his music. The tenor saxophonist is accompanied by a young Keith Jarrett on piano, bassist Ron McClure, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Jazz Casual was an occasional series on jazz music on National Educational Television NET, the predecessor to the Public Broadcasting Service PBS. The show was produced by Richard Moore and KQED of San Francisco, California. Episodes ran for 30 minutes. It ran from 1961 to 1968 and was hosted by jazz critic Ralph Gleason.
