The brainchild of lifelong jazz devotee Steve Allen, the series showcases many of the very best California-based jazz performers, not to mention rare TV appearances by outstanding national acts as well. Jazz Scene USA was a short-lived TV showcase of jazz. Filmed in black & white, the cameras work in sympathy with the players. Every nuance of the performance is captured down to the vibrations of the bass strings. Jazz Scene USA was a short-lived but imaginative half-hour jazz series shown on some syndicated television channels in 1962. Each week, host Oscar Brown, Jr. would introduce a major group or musician, conduct a short interview, and provide segues between the performances. Eight of the shows two per tape have been made available by Shanachie on four videos all are well worth acquiring. Edwards chose to live and work only in Los Angeles, and never had much impact after the late 1940s despite an impressive discography as a leader.
