The Promise is an album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released November 16, 2010 on Columbia Records. The album is a collection of previously unreleased songs recorded during the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions in 19771978 with modern vocals and additional instrumentation recorded in 2010. It was released in 2CD and 3LP formats. The album is also available as part of the box set The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story. The two-CD version of the release entered the. The Promise. Previously unreleased tracks from the 1977-78 recording sessions include long-missed studio versions of such live standards as Because the Night, Fire, and Springsteens most celebrated outtake, The Promise. Finished in some cases with modern vocals and additional instrumentation, they form a lost album between Born to Run and Darkness. Released: November 16, 2010. It had been in production for many years and was originally scheduled to be released for the 30th anniversary in 2008. 21 tracks 93:02. The additional material from time of Darkness on the Edge of Town included in the recent box re-issue of the album, along with the Houston '78 concert DVD. The Promise, a name given to two sets based around unheard music from Bruce Springsteen dating to 1977 and 1978, when he was writing and recording the seminal Darkness on the Edge of Town, doesn't fit easily into typical reissue categories. There's a 2xCD, 3xLP set that contains 22 unreleased songs from the period, and then there's a deluxe box set that augments the unreleased material with a remastered version of Darkness and three DVDs.
