The opening title track showcases ear-splitting atonal keyboard stabs and Kabuki vocal samples that finally give way to Mike Paradinas' trademark of over-distorted drum machines. Happi comes next, bouncing sweetly like some reworked Esquivel song with half the compositional value and twice the redundancy. Salsa with Mesquite is the second EP from British intelligent dance music producer µ-Ziq. It was released on September 18, 1995, on the Astralwerks record label in the US and Hi-Rise in the UK. It is a pre-album EP to be followed up by In Pine Effect. The title track is too fucking weird for my taste, considering that it doesn't really have a rhythm, or a melody, or anything else that music is supposed to have. 2-5 are pretty standard µ-Ziq for the time- mid-90's IDM with pretty melodies layered over twisted, distorted techno beats. All in all, decent stuff, not bad, but not necessarily the most memorable or essential content. Balsa Lightning', though, is absolutely brilliant.
