Album

Zazu 1986 is the debut and, to date, only album released by American model and singer-songwriter Rosie Vela. The album was produced by Gary Katz, best known for his work in that capacity with Steely Dan, and many of the songs feature Steely Dan's Donald Fagen on keyboards and Walter Becker on guitar. Also noteworthy is that Tony Levin plays Chapman stick on the songs Tonto and Zazu. Zazu - Zazu 1975 FULL ALBUM USA. Decent mid 70's US prog album released by a little known Chicago band. This is Zazu's only album release. The standout track on this LP is the monster Ittsanottasonatta, But It's Close, which is broken into suites. Had the rest of this album been of this caliber, I'd give it at the very least 4. 5 rating. When I thnk of 70's Progressive rock bands, the US does not come to mind. Decent mid 70's US prog album released by a little known Chicago band. This is Zazu's only album release. The standout track on this LP is the monster "Ittsanottasonatta, But It's Close", which is broken into suites. Had the rest of this album been of this caliber, I'd give it at the very least 4.5 rating. When I thnk of 70's Progressive rock bands, the US does not come to mind. Sure there was Kansas, and early Styx...along with some lesser knowns; Happy The Man, Fireballet, Crack The Sky, and a few others, but nothing on the scale of the UK, Europe, or even Canada for that matter. In my opinion, the only serious redeeming quality here is the song "Ittsanottasonatta, But It's Close", which is as good as anything ever released by some of the big name prog bands...yes I know that's a bold statement...but many would agree. John Melnick's keyboard playing is fantastic, and some of the instrumental passages come close to mind blowing. The whole band is super tight here...too bad the rest of the album didn't live up to this song. Sure, there were some good rock songs with prog tendancies...many reminding me of Kansas or early Styx at times...but "Ittsanottasonatta, But It's Close" is the main reason anyone should own this LPThe original vinyl was released on the small "Wooden Nickel" label out of Chicago. Styx also shared this label early on. The "SouthSide" label re-issued this on CD in 2008.I've included my Zazu YouTube video, which features a vinyl rip and imagery sourced from my Zazu LP.
Thanks for the update and apologies for doubting the existence of the CD release. I had searched for it in vain and found no info about it anywhere. And no, I do not think that the Discogs database is complete. After well over a 100 submissions in a couple of months, and most of my 45's still unlisted, it would be hard to believe that.
It was reissued on CD in 2008 on the Southside label of Macon GA, USA - Southside 4278.Just because it's not listed within Discogs data base, does not mean it doesn't exist.I bought my copy a few weeks ago. If you read the comments within my video, you will see several people talking about it, going back a couple years. I've just added the CD reissue to the Discogs data base a few moments ago.
I have found no indications whatsoever about a CD reissue, so I suppose it does not exist. A decent record, this one. "Ittsanotta..." has been posted in some prog blogs, and the track seems to be gathering a small cult following.
