Fain by Wolf People, released 30 April 2013 1. Empty Vessels 2. All Returns 3. When the Fire is Dead in the Grate 4. Athol 5. Hesperus 6. Answer 7. Thief 8. NRR Recorded in an isolated house in the Yorkshire Dales, Fain is the sound of a band at the peak of their creative powers. Its an honest and natural album that allows its stories and melodies to breathe. The album draws on more traditional English and Scottish folk melodies than anything theyve done before, but not straying from the drop-out fuzz-rock route theyve made their own. Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Purchasable with gift card. Wolf People are an English psychedelic rock band, formed by singer and guitarist Jack Sharp in Bedford in 2005. Frontman Jack Sharp grew up in Clophill, Bedfordshire. At 14 years old, Sharp approached future Wolf People drummer Tom Watt, who lived nearby, and asked if he would like to join his band, having heard drumming coming from Watt's house. Watt agreed despite the fact that he couldn't actually play drums - the noise Sharp had heard had actually been made by Watt's drummer sister, Lucy. So Lucy. On their second album, Fain, British rockers Wolf People deliver the type of controlled psychedelia and fuzz-bathed prog that defined album rock in the mid-'70s. Earlier albums drew comparisons to the bluesy classic rock of Cream or Jethro Tull, and while Fain definitely retains those reference points, the eight tunes weave together into a singular mood, touching on elements of U. folk, underground psych, and even early metal before it's all over. Fain sounds far more like a product of 1973 than 2013, but rather than soaking the album in overly nostalgic retro production, Wolf People instead wear their influences proudly while expanding on them. Album 2013 8 Songs. Fain Wolf People. People took to the English countryside to make Fain, because Fain's the kind of record you make in the English countryside. The London foursome's second LP- third, if you count their sturdy early singles collection Tidings- harkens back to the days when fife-toting beardos decamped to hillsides to write 18-minute songs about wizards. Indeed, Fain, much like 2010's Steeple, is a progressive rock record of the most British kind: heady, overcast, rooted in English psych-folk, streaked with lightning-flash guitars, thunderous rhythms, and the occasional woodwind. Review Summary: An excellent and well-crafted album that sees Wolf People build on their brand of folk-influenced psychedelic rock. It could be argued that over the last few years the psychedelic rock scene has enjoyed its biggest rise in popularity since its heyday in the late 60searly 70s. Bands such as Tame Impala and Pond have enjoyed huge success with their contemporary brand of 60s influenced psychedelia, while countless other artists have emerged, exploring various avenues within the ever expanding psychedelic genre
