This SACD is part of a project by the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra that was known as ‘The Sacred Triptych’. The project celebrated the 70th birthdays of the three Polish composers: Krzysztof Penderecki’s "Credo", Henryk Mikolaj Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" and Wojciech Kilar’s "Missa pro pace". All three concerts were filmed and released on multichannel SACD and DVD (Dolby Digital 5.1).

His film scores have won many honors including the best score award for the music to Ziemia obiecana The Promised Land in 1975, followed by the Prix Louis Delluc in 1980 for the music to Le Roi et l'Oiseau, The King and the Mockingbird, and an award at the Cork International Film Festival for the music to From A Far Country 1981. Kilar's Missa Pro Pace is ambitious in scale and message. Like the recently heard Vasks String Quartet No. 4 the music seems to look back over the twentieth century knowing its slaughters, pogroms and obdurate heartlessness. Rather than despairing the Mass finally sings a reconciling song - sorrowful yet triumphantly calm. The Missa is in five meaty sections each allocated its own substantial track. There is no further sub-division although some of the sections are clearly in further episodes. The scene is set by a stern-tense adagio where the radiant opulence of Barber-like strings meets
