Sorry is the second studio album by Canadian punk rock band White Lung, released in May 29, 2012, on Deranged Records. New Jersey's Aquarian Weekly reported that the album earned them a hearty critical reception at SXSW. But despite White Lung's threatening devotion to the more venomous corners of rapid-fire punk, Sorry is compulsively listenable due in no small part to singer Mish Way's successful pinning of a sweet spot between snarled yells, curled syllables, and melodic but equally intimidating, tobacco-tattered verse. If those aforementioned riot grrrl references sound superficial, consider Way's own description of her band's sound: like the feeling you get when you pee on the prego stick and it shows you a plus sign. Sorry isn't so much the follow-up to White Lung's 2010 full-length debut, It's the Evil, as it is a continuation like the getaway car driver outside of a bank robbery, the Vancouver-based neo-punkers immediately kick into high gear and go screeching into the night. Armed with improved production values and somehow even more energy, the band shouts and shreds through its ten tracks in under 20 minutes with a visceral intensity that borders on collapse. White Lung and frontwoman Mish throw this platitude under the bus in their second LP, Sorry. The output is aggressive and rattly, but not quite so much as their debut Its The Evil, and all the better because of it. Instead, the Canadian fourpiece concentrates more heavily on melody and it pays off in the form of catchy, little grooves that make nearly every song a highlight in its own right. Sorry exists in a comfortable middle-ground between abrasive and poppy, and never commit too heavily to either side.
