Warp 102: Classics 8992 WARP LPCD 68 features eighteen full-length classic versions and remixes taken directly from the vaults of Warp Records. Tracks appearing here were produced between the years of 1989 and 1992. As with Warp 101, many of these tracks appeared previously only on 12 inch vinyl or now out-of-print compilations and EPs. Album 1999 18 Songs. Before Warp codified the sound of IDM, the label was ground zero for a punchy style called Sheffield bleep, in which acid houses stripped-down minimalism met a rowdy UK rave sensibility. Tricky Discos Tricky Disco lays out the genres giddy pleasures in one-finger synth riffs and sped-up James Brown samples Sweet Exorcists Testone, by Cabaret Voltaires Richard H. Kirk, is all chilly sine-wave chirps and 808 cowbell. And thats techno icon Richie Hawtin lurking behind his . alias, on the closing collab with LFO, a cascade of chord stabs and rushing snares. Unlike the electronic listening music later developed by Warp acts Black Dog, Aphex Twin, and B12, and the more experimental approach to electronics that has become the label's forte thanks to Autechre and Squarepusher, early Warp records were Spartan productions.
