Ape-Ology Presents Super Ape vs. Return of the Super Ape - The Upsetters, Lee Scratch Perry. Super Ape offered a series of the producer's finest 1976 rhythms, from Devon Irons' When Jah Come and the Blue Bells' Come Along to Romeo's War in a Babylon and Chase the Devil. All are bathed in the distinct, murky atmosphere that was becoming a Black Ark trademark, then served up in the form of dub-like de-constructions. Island's U. sequencing of Super Ape places Dread Lion at the album's heart. The first album, Super Ape is presented in its original Jamaican form which has a different track order than the international Island version and in my opinion flows much better. Also, the mix is slightly different with the low end featured much more prominently in the mix. I mean this version really thumps. This is good. Always loved the Super Ape album and the extra albums here are interesting. Not quite of the same quality as Super Ape, hence the four stars but they are worth a listen. It is the more experimental side of Lee Perry - so expect strange noises, odd vocals, but always with a strong bass line and a sense of humour. Read more. Album 2012 31 Songs. Super Ape.
