It's only fitting that some of reggae's top stars should record Police songs, as Sting and Co. were enormously influenced by reggae, and their popularity gave reggae a needed boost in public awareness. Twelve artists working in different genres, from roots to dancehall, run through spirited versions of some of the band's mostly Sting's most famous songs, including Roxanne Aswad, Message in a Bottle Maxi Priest, and Every Breath You Take Betty Wright, while Sting hims. Zenyatta Mondatta stylised as Zenyattà Mondatta on the album cover artwork is the third studio album by the English rock band The Police, released on 3 October 1980 by A&M Records. It was co-produced with Nigel Gray. It features the two hit singles: Don't Stand So Close to Me and De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da. It reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Reggatta Mondatta attempts to reinforce the Police's reggae roots by offering a selection of Police favorites as performed by contemporary reggae artists. Instead, it reveals that many modern-day reggae acts are as influenced by pop-reggae like the Police as they are by genuine reggae artists. Apart from a few dub and heavy dancehall tracks, much of this sounds similar to the original versions.
