Album

An intriguing album of gamelan based largely on the gamelan jegog orchestra, one made of giant bamboo. Rather than the usual shining, shimmering sound of a proper gong kebyar or semar pegulingan gamelan ensemble, the jegog provides a rapid-fire array of notes, forming a texture of sound from the many droplets of noise in the orchestra. Heaven & Earth is the official soundtrack to the 1993 Golden Globe-winning film of the same name directed by Oliver Stone, with the original score composed by Japanese composer Kitarō. The score won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. In the score are featured exotic-sounding percussion, gongs and flutes contrasted with synthesizer and orchestral sounds.
