This is one of the absolute best documentaries on Punk rock ever made. This focus's on the American bands that really started it all and not the British ones. Dont get me wrong, i love them too but the Americans were seriously underrated after the Sex Pistols and Clash made it famous. Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2008. Verified Purchase. I saw a concert in LA wFear, Circle Jerks, and Black Flag. The look back culture can be a great thing, from the post-punk emphasis of the last few years Scritti Politti's Early, Rip It Up & Start Again, The Slits reforming, Josef K's recent compilation, to festivals like All Tomorrows Parties which Flipper & Negative Approach featured here both played at recently in Minehead, and onto something like this. To be clear, though the title might imply that this is a 1980s U. hardcore punk best-of anthology of sorts, it's actually pretty much a soundtrack to the film documentary American Hardcore, in which most of the 26 songs appear. Nonetheless, it does serve as a decent overview of the scene, if you want to take it that way, and is all the more refreshing for not concentrating on the more famousnotorious cuts you might expect from such a compilation. Hardcore sprouted underground scenes across the United States in the early 1980s, particularly in Washington, D. New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Boston-as well as in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. Hardcore has spawned the straight edge movement and its associated submovements, hardline and youth crew. Joy de Vivre from the influential UK anarcho-punk band Crass at a 1984 show. One definition of the genre is a form of exceptionally harsh punk rock. An article in Drowned in Sound argues that 1980s-era hardcore is the true spirit of punk, because after all the poseurs and fashionistas fucked off to the next trend of skinny pink ties with New Romantic haircuts, singing wimpy lyrics, the punk scene consisted only. The impact of powerful volume is important in hardcore. American Hardcore, a soundtrack culled from the film of the same name, is a very different kind of compilation than those founding documents. Rather than strive to represent a specific scene, the curators of the film aim to represent the entire movement, tracing the broad arc of hardcore's musical and geographical progression. The rest of American Hardcore brilliantly walks the tightrope between scene and chronology. There's a prolonged stop in Boston- cherry-picked from Boston Not L
