The American Folk Blues Festival was a music festival that toured Europe as an annual event for several years beginning in 1962. It introduced audiences in Europe, including the UK, to leading blues performers of the day such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Sonny Boy Williamson, most of whom had never previously performed outside the US. In many instances the backing band has it's stars too playing in the Dixon and Buddy Guy. The tours were organized by Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau with the help of Willie Dixon, who played very important roles in getting the American musicians on board and also, as one can see in various videos, as a musical director, in addition to his bass and guitar playing and singing. Some of the recordings are staged for TV, some are from concert settings
