Records on October 9, 2007. It is co-produced by Irv Gotti, Linda Perry and Third Eye Blind lead singer Stephan Jenkins, who produced Carlton's second album, Harmonium 2004, and Carlton co-wrote the tracks with Perry and Jenkins. It is Carlton's first album on The Inc. Records, after Irv Gotti signed her to a record deal there in late 2006, and Gotti has said that Heroes & Thieves is the first album on which he is acting as. Heroes & Thieves is singer-songwriter-pianist Vanessa Carlton's third and only album to be released under label The Inc in October 2007. Carlton starting working on the album some time in 2005 after leaving her former label A&M due to lack of promotion of her second album, Harmonium. The album features lyrical contributions from Vanessa herself as well as Linda Perry, Stephen Jenkins and a feature with Stevie Nicks on the track The One. The album is also the first to feature an obvious vocal maturity from Carlton who often resorted to read more. Vanessa Carlton spent much of her second album, Harmonium, running away from the pop success that her 2002 debut, Be Not Nobody, and its inescapable hit single, A Thousand Miles, brought her, choosing to turn inward and confessional. It was an artistic decision that had a perhaps predictable side effect: it didn't sell nearly as much as the debut, failing to crack the Top 30 and generating not one hit single.
