You're Gonna Get It is the second album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released in 1978. Originally, the album was to be titled Terminal Romance. It peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart in 1978. Many reviewers rated You're Gonna Get It a notch lower than the band's moderately well-received debut album. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers didn't really knock out their second album - it was released two years after their debut - but it sure sounds as if they did. There are some wonderful moments on this record, but it often feels like leftovers from a strong debut, or an album written on the road, especially since the music is simply an extension of the first album. That said, when You're Gonna Get It works, it devastates. That's not saying that When the Time Comes is a masterpiece, even if it's a fine opener, but it does mean that I Need to Know an. On Youre Gonna Get It, Petty has shed some - but not all - of his cloaks. Magnolia, the most straightforward love song hes yet done, maintains the mystique: Then she kissed me and told me her nameI never did tell her mine. But by the songs end, its the girl whos forgotten the singer, while hes left remembering her. Everythings open-ended enough to make you want more. Petty omits all narrative signposts from his lyrics, depending instead on cryptic, repeated catch phrases and the doomy shifts of the music to flesh out his images. On Youre Gonna Get It, the story is left mostly untold. You're Gonna Get It is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers sophmore release. While like the first album it sold ok, but did not produce a huge hit. I believe I Need to Know and Listen to her Heart were minor hits, but not the kind of smashes to get the train a rollin' for the group. While You're Gonna Get It is not as strong of an album as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was it is a fine album. You're Gonna Get It feels like a track from his 1982 LP Long After Dark - lyrically hard-hitting but with that great hooky riff.
