Lincoln is the second studio album by the band They Might Be Giants. It was released by BarNone in 1988. The album is named after John Linnell and John Flansburgh's boyhood home of Lincoln, Massachusetts. The album produced three singles - Ana Ng, They'll Need a Crane, and Purple Toupee. When we had to write another album, we obviously didnt have, like, five years to write Lincoln. So it seems we were really quick in writing songs back then. We had more of a plan. Cutting away some of the artier aspects of their debut, They Might Be Giants craft another wildly eclectic and geekily fun collection of alt-pop with Lincoln. In general, the album displays greater musical ambition than its predecessor, especially since the duo have trimmed many of the weirder excesses of the debut. They Might Be Giants have been around since 1985, and they are still going strong as of today. I am a hardcore TMBG fan, and they are possibly one of my favorite bands. I don't remember how I got into this band. Years later I purchased Lincoln, the bands sophomore album. I would have to say that this is by far the bands strongest album. Catchy hooks, strange but interesting lyrics, a boat load of instruments and a lot of nerdy wackiness. I am a nerd, but I don't really listen to nerd-rock. Lincoln is one of those albums that you can listen to anytime and anywhere. They Might Be Giants mix together pop, rock, nerd-rock, and slight influences of jazz, r&b, post-punk, and altrock.
