The Singles is a compilation of singles by The Who that was released by Polydor in November 1984. It was not released in the United States or Canada, and it lacks a number of early singles. The version of I Can See for Miles contained herein is not the classic single version, but a BBC live recording with a loud, overdubbed bass track. All songs written by Pete Townshend except where noted. Substitute - 3:45. I'm a Boy - 2:37. Happy Jack - 2:14. The Who have been with several labels over the years. In the United Kingdom and elsewhere outside North America, they were signed originally to Brunswick Records. In 1966, they moved to Polydor Records and took the rights to their Brunswick recordings with them. They created and moved to Track Records the following year with distribution by Polydor. They left Track in 1974 and returned to Polydor directly, remaining with the label ever since. One imagines that this collection was aimed at the total neophyte listener - taken in any other context, this is an odd collection of single sides by one of the premiere singles bands of the 1960s and early '70s.
