Album

Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone is the debut studio album by the American indie rock band The Walkmen, released on March 26, 2002, on Startime International. The Walkmen celebrated the album's release by performing at the Knitting Factory on April 6, 2002. The song We've Been Had was featured in commercials for the Saturn Ion. 2015 г. The Walkmen - Everyone Who Pretended to Like. The Walkmen - We Can't Be Beat. The songwriting on Everyone Who Pretended is solid, but it's the title track that really impresses. It harkens back to bands like U2 or the Cure- not just in tone, but in magnitude: skyscraping guitar smears and then a striking riff, the texture taking flight, and Leithauser insinuating his vocals on top, never weighing down a song that's already soaring. The only complaint you could make is that it's too short- that, in under four minutes, they play a song that sounds like it should go on for eight or nine, with big video screens looming behind and Leithauser doing something. It is not so much that the Walkmen sound like Television or the Talking Heads or Blondie, but that they, like their NYC peers Interpol, the French Kicks, and Radio 4, evoke the gritty, urban energy so well. Wake Up, previously released on the band's debut EP, is downright eerie as vocalist Hamilton Leithauser moans over the twisting melody. The title track is an intense spiral of space rock with spare but melodramatic string flourishes. Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. Atlas Sound. In Ear Park. The Walkmen intentionally change their sound to move away from their garage rock roots. They are one of the few bands that uses an upright piano, and boy what a defining feel it gives to their songs. They also experiment with various instrumentation and recording techniques. Their influences are a who's who of 70's and 80's post-punk and alternative, deriving their sound from such bands as Joy Division, The Cure, The Pixies, The Velvet Underground, Brian Eno, The Smiths, and Television. The American band The Walkmen emerged from the remains of the cult group Jonathan Fire * Eater. The five members grew up in Washington DC, but all now live in New York. The music on their debut album Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone sounds like a modern, better produced version of the new wave music from the seventies/eighty (Joy Division, The Cure, Talking Heads). In addition you can hear influences from U2 (the guitarist sometimes seems very on The Edge) and the legendary Pixies (especially in terms of song structure). In addition, sounds the singer alternately as Black Francis (Frank Black) and Bono of these two latest bands. The Walkmen fits with their warm-blooded, passionate and sometimes incomprehensible music perfectly in the list of ' new wave revival bands like Interpol, Radio 4 and The Faint. For some listeners it might be up, but Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone is a real growth diamond mine gets a bonus point because of the beautiful cover photo!
