The Town Criers: Were an Australian pop band formed in 1964. By 1967 their line-up was Andy Agtoft on lead vocals, Mark Demajo on bass guitar, Sam Dunnin on lead guitar, Chris Easterby on drums, and George Kurtiss on keyboards. Their first single was a cover version of the Kinks' album track, The World Keeps Going Round, which was issued in 1965 but did not chart. The Last Time, . и другие песни. During this Folk, Bluegrass phase, the group released two singles and an album, the singles being Gather Them Rosebuds 1963, Dog Song Unknown, most likely 1965 or 1966, and the album Live in 1968 though it is extremely likely this album was recorded earlier, potentially as early as 1965. This album also had the brewing of a new Rock sound that the group would adopt later on. A newspaper from Alabama raved about the group being a rising talent. After some experience on the road, the groups sound dramatically changed. A town crier, also called a bellman, is an officer of a royal court or public authority who makes public pronouncements as required. The town crier was used to make public announcements in the streets. Criers often dress elaborately, by a tradition dating to the 18th century, in a red and gold coat, white breeches, black boots and a tricorne hat.
