It would be hard to repeat the greatness of the Rolling Stones' 'Beggars Banquet', and 'Let It Bleed' does not succeed, but there is some wonderful Stones' music here. The album opens with one of their greatest songs. "Gimme Shelter" features an opening riff which is hypnotic and is never forgotten. It's a perfect arrangement, like 'Sympathy for the Devil', and the addition of Merry Clayton handling the vocal chores with Mick is sheer genius."You Can't Always Get What You Want" is another near-perfect Stones' song. (In its way, the song is 'holier' than even Sir Paul McCartney's 'Let It Be'.) I do agree with the previous reviewer that the mix of acoustic and electric guitars is part of the charm of some of these songs. It certainly is a dynamic in what I consider to be Keith's best performance as a Stone in 'You Got the Silver'.'Let It Bleed' , the song, is quite a counterpoint to the Beatles; 'Let It Be'. Jagger's love here is earthy and uncouth. This song could easily slip into a dull parody (which the group accomplishes on 'Live With Me'), but Mick and the Stones come across as completely sincere on this track.'Love In Vain' is competent, but strangely uninteresting. As is the aforementioned 'Live With Me'. 'Country Honk' seems like simply a throwaway of their great classic. 'Monkee Man' features a killer hook, a la 'Can't You Hear Me Knockin'', but the lyrics are so silly, it's hard to take it as a serious Stones' song.'Midnight Rambler' is always a crowd pleaser, but it seems a bit too obvious compared to serious works like 'Gimme Shelter' and 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'. And there's always the danger of slipping into self-parody, which I feel Jagger does here.I find every song on 'Beggars Banquet' to be a classic in its own way, and this is simply not the case with 'Let It Bleed'. But there are four real treasures on here. And this album is ultimately much more listenable, much more fun, than the pompous and anemic Beatles' 'Let It Be'.

This is by far the best album from The Rolling Stones. The Hits on it are timeless and full of quality. What makes Let It Bleed and other records from this era so interesting and musically rich is the combination of acoustic and electric guitars. Often you get Keith Richard's play his acoustic guitar while Mick Taylor plays Lead on the electric guitar. Country Honk, Live With Me or You Got The Silver are mainly acoustic sets. There were legions of young men playing acoustic guitar that learned how to play the songs from this record, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Mainstreet. You could impress the other sex and your peers when you were able to play and sing these songs. Today i listend to this pressing of LET IT BLEED once again and was so impressed. The Sound is fantastic. There are a few car horn on COUNTRY HONK and i was actually looking out of the window to see who was that LOL. The Hits on Let It Bleed are the timeless anthems MIDNIGHT RAMBLER, GIMME SHELTER, the titletrack and the lovely ballad YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT. But no song on this record is out of place. The beautiful "You Got The Silver, You Got The Gold"fits the mood as good as "Live With Me" as the second Song on the other Side. Honky Tonk Woman, the big Single Hit of the time this record came out appears in a country fashion, that adss a lot to the Ballroom feel the song is dealing with. The Fiddle seems to come straight from western movie . Monkey Man + Country Woman are the least in ya face tunes here, but are also nice. There are a lot of Bands, that would kill for one Song as great as "Gimme Shelter", "The Midnight Rambler" or "Let It Bleed" ( "We All Need Someone To Lean On, So Why Don't You Lean On Me....") sounds familiar, doesnt it ? Bill Wither's Hit "Lean On Me" uses exact the same melody and lyrics . Anyway - Till today The Rolling Stones play these songs from Let It Bleed Live and all these once young guitar players still know the riffs from these gems Jagger & Richards composed 3 and a half decades ago. If you buy only one album by The Rolling Stones make it this one. You won't regret it...
