Phil Woods is joined by guitarist Harry Leahey, From The Showboat is a bop music live album recording by PHIL WOODS released in 1977 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette. Phil Woods played with everyone from Bill Evans to Dizzy Gillespie, and in the ultimate old-school move, married the widow of Charlie Parker. In 1977, the same year he played the alto-sax solo on Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are, Woods assembled a supple band and released a great album that kept be-bop alive as a Seventies art form, a terrific selling point for the art of jazz improvisation. What We Said Then: Outside of some people in the black avant-garde, Phil Woods is the most interesting alto saxophonist alive. He's rooted in the Forties, yet his s. If you've never heard this and are a Phil Woods fan or fan of bebop and beyond jazz, this is a tremendously fantastic live recording of one of the very best working jazz ensembles. I cannot recommend this enough The Japan import thing is no problem, a little pricey but well worth it. One of his best and beyond anything I could say except in 1976 I bought the album for 12. I was a kid and that was the most I'd ever spent on a record. Turned out to be a lifelong may leave us, but they are not forgotten.
