John Fogerty's goal for the line, Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river, in the song Proud Mary was to evoke male gospel harmonies, as exemplified by groups such as the Swan Silvertones, the Sensational Nightingales, and the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi. The Blind Boys of Mississippi are an extraordinary grouping of blind singers, most of which originate from the Magnolia state. Initially called The Jackson Harmoneers, they fronted the high pitched screams of Archie Brownlee October 25, 1925 - February 8, 1960. Big Henry Johnson filled Roscoe's shoes and quickly recorded the album, 'Father I Stretch My Hands To Thee'. Despite this rousing release, the Blind Boys broke up in early 1965 after a history making European tour. The Blind Boys came back together around Sandy Foster in 1973. Ever since they've recorded countless albums and singles including Could've Been Me and Going On With Jesus.
