People Get Ready is the debut studio album by American garage rock band The Mooney Suzuki. Recorded at Sweatbox Studio in Austin, Texas, it was released on September 5, 2000, by Estrus Records. The album was later reissued by Estrus in July 2011. People Get Ready was recorded by Tim Kerr with engineer Mike Vasquez at Sweatbox Studio in Austin, Texas. The band worked with Kerr on the recommendation of Dave Crider, then-head of Estrus Records, who suggested they just let the tapes roll and see what. The starting track on Mooney Suzuki's first album on Estrus perfectly encapsulates their sound: there is a definite MC5Stooges sound, thumping bass and drums with organ and fuzzy guitars coming in to take you away. These guys are out of New York, so a New York Dolls influence is evident. Plenty of garagey, proto-punk rock. Much like the Hellacopters' early releases, this also brings to mind Sonic's Rendezvous Band, with vocals eerily similar to Scott Morgan. After giving this one a listen you can list about 100 bands that they remind you of, yet borrow absolutely nothing. The Mooney Suzuki have a very distinct sound in a somewhat cloned genre.
