The Modern Jazz Quartet at Music Inn Volume 2 is a live album by American jazz group the Modern Jazz Quartet featuring performances recorded at the Music Inn in Lenox, Massachusetts, in 1958, with guest artist Sonny Rollins appearing on two numbers, and released on the Atlantic label. It is a highlight of the group's storied career on Atlantic. All compositions by John Lewis except as indicated. The second volume of the Modern Jazz Quartet at the Music Inn was released in 1959, a year after its historic first volume with guest Jimmy Giuffre. The format on this set is similar, with pianist John Lewis, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, bassist Percy Heath, and drummer Connie Kay moving through a gorgeous medley of standards to open including Stardust, I Can't Get Started, and Lover Man, with beautiful and clever counterpoint between Lewis and Jackson on the melody lines. The Modern Jazz Quartet - Midsommer Modern Jazz Quartet MJQ was a jazz combo established in 1952 that played music influenced by classical, cool jazz, blues and bebop. For most of its history the Quartet consisted of John Lewis piano, Milt Jackson vibraphone, Percy Heath double bass, and Connie Kay drums. The group grew out of the rhythm section of Dizzy Gillespie's big band from 1946 to 1948, which consisted of Lewis and Jackson along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Kenny Clarke.
