Playin' Up a Storm is the second studio album by the Gregg Allman Band and was released on the Capricorn Records label. It peaked at number 42 on the U. Pop Albums charts in 1977. Playin' Up a Storm was Allman's second solo studio effort, following 1973's Laid Back. It came after the breakup of the Allman Brothers Band in 1976. During this time, Allman had moved to Hollywood to live with his then-wife Cher. The album was produced by Lenny Waronker, and in his memoir, My Cross to Bear, Allman. Not only is he in fine voice, delivering each song with conviction, but his supporting band - featuring such luminaries as Dr. John and Bill Payne - is sterling. All the grooves are in the pocket, the sound is enticing, and the overall effect is just right. Not an earth-shattering record, but it will please true Allman fans. Listen album. Blues Rock.
