Taka began her professional career by singing background vocals for various groups, including Parliament. She also sang lead vocals for The Undisputed Truth and the Glass House. Taka eventually signed with Ariola-America and released a self-titled LP which spawned a top 20 R&B hit in Night Dancin', but the label folded before Taka's second single could be released.
