The Cro-Magnons ザクロマニヨンズ, Za Kuromaniyonzu is a Japanese rock band founded in July 2006 by Hiroto Kōmoto vocals and Masatoshi Mashima guitar, both previously of The Blue Hearts and The High-Lows, with Masaru Kobayashi bass and Katsuji Kirita drums. After The High-Lows ceased activity in November 2005, Mashima proposed forming a new band with Kōmoto. Due to an introduction from a recording engineer named Satoshi Kawaguchi, known from the time of The Blue Hearts, Kobayashi and Kirita joined. Cro-Magnons play what could be called old-school pop-punk - the music is closer to the Ramones or even the Sex Pistols than to blink-182's glossy pop, but there's hardly a trace of the sarcastic anarchist ethos of the punk classics on Fire Age - it's quite a positive and good-natured album. Most songs are done in a style that was all too familiar by 2008 - the raw and simple guitar lines energetic but not rich on hooks, the hoarse singalong choruses, the single fast tempo throughout. The single will feature the songs Speed to Knife, Ore na toko and Tako age taikai, with the CDDVD version of the release including footage from their Pitch Pitch Chap Chap Ran Ran Ran Tour finale on July 5th at Akasaka Blitz. Speed to Knife will also be released in 7 analog format on the same day. The band has also announced the release of their third album, FIRE AGE, for October 15th.
