The Green Hills of Earth is a science fiction short story by American writer Robert A. One of his Future History stories, the short story originally appeared in The Saturday Evening Post February 8, 1947, and it was collected in The Green Hills of Earth and subsequently in The Past Through Tomorrow. Heinlein selected the story for inclusion in the 1949 anthology My Best Science Fiction Story. The Green Hills of Earth is also the title of a song mentioned in several of Heinlein's novels. The very musical Crehan Family first came to international prominence in 1970 when they successfully competed in the T. Times competition Opportunity Knocks. A short time later their first album on EMI The Crehan Family was issued and achieved notable sales. More recently this first album was released on Music for Pleasure MFP 50025 and is enjoying a new lease of popularity. The title track The Green Hills of Clare is beautifully interpreted by Carl Corcoran. It is a Claremans nostalgic reflection upon the land he loved and had to leave. The Crehans are Clare folk and this song has particular significance for them as it will for Claremen wherever they are. Born in North Dublin in 1952, Carl Corcoran began performing as a pianistsinger-songwriter in the clubs in Dublin in the early 70s, the same scene which gave Chris de Burgh his start. His biography says he was surprised to be offered a recording contract by EMI Records. The stage name Jamie Stone was chosen for him by producer John Drummond. Before recording as Jamie Stone, Carl had already made his vinyl debut with the Dublin branch of the Crehan Family as opposed to their West Clare cousins, a traditional music group who'd appeared on ITV's Opportunity Knocks in 1970 and signed.
