A cross between bubblegum and well-crafted pop, Hey Baby was the Buckinghams' third straight Top 40 hit, reaching number 12 in 1967. Like several of the bands other hits, there is a strong Neil Diamond influence to the whole affair, making this an effortlessly accessible slice of pop confection. A slight hint of jazz in some of the breaks give the song a slight progressive feel, but it remains a '60s teen romance number, and was made for and written about dancing.
