London Symphony Orchestra is an album series by Frank Zappa, released in two parts as London Symphony Orchestra, Vol. I in 1983 and London Symphony Orchestra, Vol. II, in 1987. They were recorded at the same sessions, in January 1983. The two albums were later combined, and re-released on a Rykodisc CD as London Symphony Orchestra Vol. I & II 1995. Volume I features the London Symphony Orchestra performing four instrumental compositions - Sad Jane, Pedro's Dowry, Envelopes, and Mo 'n Herb's. This bootleg LP was evidently recorded at a June 16, 1984, concert by the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, with Frank Zappa on hand, if not possibly conducting at least one number. The sound is very good, probably recorded through the soundboard. What is a treat for Zappa fans is they get to hear Bob in Dacron immediately followed by Sad Jane as he originally conceived this ballet. The music, like much of Zappa's orchestral writing, sounds like it was written as a movie soundtrack. It's amazing, as a lot of the musical elements from 200 Motels were incorporated showing that was his secret masterwork Pop musicians try to go classical to show how they are serious composers.
