Redirected from The Beatles 1967-1970. 19671970 widely known as The Blue Album is a compilation of songs by the English rock band the Beatles, spanning the years indicated in the title. It was released with 19621966 The Red Album, in 1973. 19671970 made No. 1 on the American Billboard chart and No. 2 on the British Album Chart. This album was re-released in September 1993 on CD, charting at No. 4 in the United Kingdom. The Beatles had never had a career spanning Best-Of or Greatest Hits - in a very real senses all of their LPs were Greatest Hits albums. They had more hit singles that could fit on even a double album, and to complicate things, some of the group's most important songs - A Day In The Life, The Fool On The Hill, and in England even Yesterday - were not released as singles. The Red and Blue albums had to tell The Beatles' story in limited time, necessarily leaving out many big songs while conveying a sense of the whole history of the group. The Beatles 1967-1970. From the Beatlemania that brought them worldwide popularity to the bold experimentation of their mid-period, this is an essential overview of the band's rapid ascent as musical adventurers. 19621966 widely known as The Red Album is a compilation of The Beatles' greatest hits from 1962 to 1966. It was released with 1967-1970 The Blue Album, a compilation of their greatest hits from 1967 to 1970. 19621966 reached 3 in the UK and managed to reach 1 in the U. Cashbox albums chart. However, in the U. the official chart was administered by Billboard, where 19621966 peaked at 3, while 1967-1970 managed to meet the summit. This album was re-released in September 1993 charting at 3. The Beatles. Picking up where 1962-1966 left off, the double-album compilation 1967-1970, commonly called The Blue Album, covers the Beatles' later records, from Sgt. Pepper's through Let It Be. Like The Red Album, The Blue Album was released in the wake of a pair of widely advertised quadruple-LP bootlegs, Alpha Omega, Vols. 1-2: The Story of the Beatles, which had appeared early in 1973. Growing up, I'd listened to the Red Album known officially as The Beatles1962-1966-my sister owned the 2-LP collection. I never understood why she never bothered to get the Blue Album, which compiles their singles from 1967-1970. The Beatles 1962-1966 and its sister album 1967-1970 were the first Beatles compilations following the groups split in 1970. The tracklisting for both collections was compiled by Allen Klein, and were approved by the former members of The Beatles. No cover versions were included, and all the songs on the Red Album were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The front cover of 1962-1966 featured a photograph by Angus McBean taken during the session for The Beatles debut UK album Please Please Me. McBean photographed the group as they looked down from the stairwell at EMI House in Manchester Square, London
