Ultimately, Laughing Stock along with their previous record, Spirit of Eden and Slints Spiderland are considered some of the first true post-rock records and would later play an enormous influence on more modern post-rock bands in the decades to come. It is astounding that Laughing Stock was one of the first albums widely considered post rock for many reasons. Now, defining post-rock itself can be a dicey task, particularly because it can entail just about anything thats a little bit rock and a little bit anything else. Full Review. More Talk Talk albums. But to put it in an easier to dissect example, the foundation that Talk Talk laid out on Laughing Stock can be traced to bands like Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor to Sigur Ros, and to some extent, even Isis. The songs ache with languid phrases and the naked, vulnerable voice of Mark Hollis, the only element of the band that remains perceptible from their verse-chorus-verse past. Dreamy and loose, Talk Talk's Laughing Stock turns 180 degrees away from the '80s pop sound of It's My Life and runs headlong into a web of Brian Eno, avant-garde, jazz, and experimental structure. 2xLP, heavy weight vinyl, smokey grey/blue color. Sound quality is excellent. Sleeve print appears to be high quality, insert high quality as well. Until they officially release this again, pick this up if you see it in your local shop.

I have the same copy. No barcode or anything. It was a bit noisy upon first spin, but after a good cleaning it sounds great. This was the closest description I could find on here.

The counterfeit or unofficial 2010 repress comes in dark red marbled vinyl, but not all of them, some are black. The information in the run-out is etched BY HAND. This is the main difference between the original where the run out info is machine stamped. The lyric sheet looks the same like the original, maybe surface looks a little bit glossier, but one has to compare directly to the original to see any difference. The same with the cover; - little bit glossier and the printings on the spine are about 2 cm larger (more space between the characters) that those of the original.Nevertheless there's NO DIFFERENCE in sound quality though; - whoever might be responsible for this "fraud" must have had access to all the original sources. These little buggers knew exactly what they were doing...can't help saying it's a great job.
MrCat
so is "a great job" or "a counterfeit with bad quality"?! i have loved this album for so long and have decided that i would like it on vinyl. Everyone universally says that las year's re-issue sounded terrible, and the original costs a bomb...so what's the best option? buy this version or bite the bullet and get an original?hj x
Gianni_Giant
The original has a 5mm rim at the outer edge of the label that is substantially HIGHER than the rest.I expect that the counterfeit does not show this. Can anyone upload pictures of the counterfeit´s labels and describe them?Is the label completely flat?
