Genesis Revisited, called Watcher of the Skies: Genesis Revisited in the US, was a project put together by Steve Hackett to pay tribute to his former band Genesis. It mainly features songs originally released by Genesis during Hackett's tenure with the group 197177. The previously unreleased song Déjà Vu was started by Peter Gabriel in 1973 during the Selling England by the Pound sessions but not finished and Hackett completed the song for this album. The album was recorded on 5th October 2018 at The Royal Festival Hall, London, during the 2018 Genesis Revisited Tour which fulfilled a long held ambition of Steve's: to perform the music of Genesis with a live orchestra. From 1971 to 1977, Steve Hackett was the lead guitarist with Genesis, and helped define the sound of one of Britain's most acclaimed progressive rock bands on such albums as Foxtrot, A Trick of the Tail, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Since leaving the group, Hackett has enjoyed a long and successful solo career, but in 1997, he took a fresh look at some of his favorite selections from his years with Genesis on the album Watcher of the Skies: Genesis Revisited. His current band, Genesis Revisited II and now Genesis Revisited: Live at Hammersmith prove that this is no mere tribute, though there would be nothing wrong with that.
